Float Frames
What farmers should know to begin framing of an unstretched painting rolled in shipping tube. The important parameters are the size of the painting and canvas bleeding around the painting. Canvas bleeding is unpainted canvas shoulders left for purpose of stretching painting on wooden frame called stretching frame. The dimensions of the stretching frame width and height are extrapolated from the size of painting. While bleeding on the canvas must take into consideration thickness of the stretching frame and be wide enough to use stretching tools conveniently.
In this case the painting dimensions are length and width are 78 by 78 cm. (30 ⁴⁵/₆₄ by 30 ⁴⁵/₆₄”). Canvas dimensions are 100 by 100 cm. (39 ³/₈ by 39 ³/₈”). Defining canvas bleeding on each side around artwork as 11 cm. (4 ²¹/₆₄”) for stretching canvas on the stretching frame.
Stretching frames can assume different structures with central intersecting supports and metal right-angle coiner brackets preserving rigid rectangular shape. Finally, the stretching frame is assembled with artwork float frame completing framing.
